Healthier School Snack Options

My kids school provides snacks and though they are healthier than many options are still not as healthy as they seem. So even though we have totally given up on processed foods, and do not buy much anymore, I researched a bit to find out some healthy snack alternatives to kids. Here is the list I came up with for nut-free healthy snack options. I intend to talk to the school to see if they can switch to the following healthier alternatives instead and I urge all of you do the same for your kids.

(14) For Birthdays, schools can provide a list of snacks (treats) for parents to opt from and the cost involved in distributing to the class. This way, the school can enforce only healthy, organic snacks which are over the schools budget:
Example:

As more healthier snacks are suggested, the school can filter out the allergic information (nuts, peanuts, soy etc) of the students and add to the list of snacks. If the school cannot provide these options for funding reasons, adding all the above list to the birthday list would be a start.

(15) Some other options include:

  • Indian Store Snacks like Sev, Bhel, Crunchy chick peas, Crunchy green peas
  • Ezekiel or Sourdough breads with Organic Pesto or Organic Sunflower butter
  • Soaked OrganicChia seeds with Cinnamon and Organic Raw Honey.
  • Perfect seed bars from refrigerated section at Costco

Protein Power Balls

One of the most healthy and filling snacks is the Protein Power Balls. These are almost instant and easy to make and all natural. They contain amazing nutrition benefits with healthy fats and protein. I prefer the following seeds in the preparation of these balls: Sprouted Pumpkin Seeds  Sprouted Sunflower Seeds Hemp Seeds Overnight soaked, slow roasted sesame seeds  Why I do not use nuts? Since they contain phytic acid, and it is not good to eat raw nuts. It is better to soak nuts overnight before eating them. Why I use sprouted seeds? Even seeds have phytic acid, sprouting makes the nutrients in the seeds more bioavailable and easy to digest.  Why did I use raw Hemp seeds? Since hemp is the most easily digestible seeds and does not need soaking. Why did I soak overnight and slow roast sesame seeds? For any other seeds, this is the process I follow apart from the above three. It is just an example. I get the organic sprouted pumpkin and sunflow...
